Before you begin to update, Make a backup of your device using iCloud or iTunes.A. Update your device wirelessly
If a message says that an update is available, tap Install Now. You can also follow these Tutorial steps by steps :
- Plug your device in to power and connect to the Internet with Wi-Fi.
- Tap Settings > General > Software Update.
- Tap Download and Install. If a message asks to temporarily remove apps because iOS needs more space for the update, tap Continue or Cancel. Later, iOS will reinstall apps that it removed. If you tap Cancel, learn what to do next.
- To update now, tap Install. Or you can tap Later and choose Install Tonight or Remind Me Later. If you tap Install Tonight, just plug your iOS device in to power before you go to sleep. Overnight, your device will update automatically.
- If asked, enter your passcode.
B. Update your device using iTunes
If you can’t update wirelessly, you can update with iTunes. If your computer uses the Personal Hotspot on the iOS device that you’re updating, connect your computer to a different network.
- Install the latest version of iTunes on your computer.
- Connect your device to your computer.
- Open iTunes and select your device.
- Click Summary, then click Check for Update.
- Click Download and Update.
If you see error messages in iTunes or need more space to update
Get help when you see error messages while updating your device with iTunes. Or if you need more space for an update, you can delete content from your device manually.
Get help with over-the-air iOS 10 updates
You might be unable to update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch wirelessly—or over the air—for one of these reasons.
- Not enough available storage space on your device
- Downloading the update takes a long time
- Unable to reach the update server
- The update doesn't complete
If there's not enough space to update
With iOS 10 and later, if there isn't enough space to download and install an update, your device will try to make space. It will remove parts of apps that it can download again. This makes space without having to remove or relocate any of your content. If your device still doesn't have enough space, you can use iTunes to update your device.
If you can't connect to iTunes, you can make room for the update by removing content on your device that you don't use. To remove content, go to Settings > General > Software Update and tap Usage Settings. Learn more about the space your apps and content use.
Check your storage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
If your iOS device storage is almost full, go to Settings to see how much storage you've used.
Use your iOS device to check its storage
Tap Settings > General > Storage & iCloud Usage > Manage Storage.
You'll see a list of your apps, and how much storage each one uses. Tap an app for more detailed information about its usage.
Depending on the app, you might be able to delete some of its content, or delete the app and all of its content. If your device is almost full, or you get a Storage Almost Full alert, remove some less-used content.
Use iTunes to check the storage on your iOS device
- Open iTunes on your computer.
- Connect your device to your computer.
- In iTunes, select your device. You'll see a bar that shows how much storage your iOS content uses, divided by content type.
Here is a list of the types of content on your iOS device, and what each type includes:
- Audio: Songs, audio podcasts, audiobooks, voice memos, and ringtones
- Video: Movies, music videos, and TV shows
- Photos: Camera Roll content, Photo Stream, and Photo Library
- Apps: Installed apps
- Books: iBooks books and PDF files
- Documents & Data: Safari Offline Reading List, files created within apps, and app content like contacts, calendars, messages, and emails (and their attachments)
- Other: Settings, Siri voices, system data, and cached files
